In mid-June, I photographed Sarah and Ryan’s ceremony and celebration in Hanover and Lyme, N.H. My day began at St. Denis Catholic Church for their heartfelt ceremony, followed by a fun reception at Loch Lyme Lodge. A great time was had by all! Follow this link to see more on my Facebook page.

Sweet Family
The other day, I photographed Laura, Aaron and their sweet daughter Anna at their home in Jericho, Vt. — the portrait session was a gift from their relatives. It was a beautiful day and I enjoyed my time with them!
Arts Day 2014
On May Day, I was invited back to teach a photo class at the Orange Windsor Supervisory Union’s third annual Arts Day in Chelsea, Vt. Middle school students from the district’s five schools signed up for classes in calligraphy, dance, drawing, painting and photography. I had ten students in my class, with two exchange students assisting me. After I showed them my work, we roamed around town to do photos — their work, shown below in a slideshow, was most impressive!

On Town Meeting day, I received delivery of a smart phone. Since then, the phone has become an amazing tool — I didn’t think I would enjoy using its camera as much as I do. It’s easy to grab pictures here and there with it and quickly upload them to Instagram (follow me @geoff_hansen)!
Clockwise from upper left: Ice jams the White River in Sharon, Vt.; my teenage daughter multitasks while eating lunch in West Lebanon, N.H.; finished maple syrup is ready for bottling in Tunbridge, Vt.; winter’s last gasp forms ice crystals along the roadside in Tunbridge, Vt.; a poster for the World’s Fair hangs from the Cilley covered bridge in Tunbridge, Vt.; Rev. Deadra Ashton wishes everyone a Happy Easter at the end of the sunrise service in Tunbridge, Vt.
Sporting News
Last Friday, I photographed two sports assignments for the Valley News — one was inside, the other outside. The weather was brisk for Dartmouth’s home softball opener, with snowbanks lining the outfield fences. Later in the evening, I photographed a baseball practice indoors while it was pouring rain outside. Must be mud season!
From top: Dartmouth’s Chloe Madill crosses home plate after teammate Kristen Rumley hit a double in the first inning of the Big Green’s home opener in Hanover, N.H.; South Royalton catcher Alex Berk works with assistant coach John Scoskie on blocking wild pitches during a Friday night practice in South Royalton, Vt.

Time Together
Last weekend, Taryn and Rob asked me to photograph themselves with their one-year-old daughter Sophia at their home in Hanover, N.H. It was the first time one of them wasn’t photographing the other. I was happy to be there!
Tiger Tale
It sounds crazy to get excited about junior high school basketball, but it’s been fun to follow my daughter’s play on the Tunbridge Central School girls team this season. Their improved skills and play as a team culminated with a championship win this past weekend — it was a proud moment!
Happy Anniversary
It’s hard to believe, but this year marks the 20th anniversary of my time as a wedding photographer. The first wedding I photographed in 1994 was a present for my friends — since then, I have done hundreds of weddings across the Northeast. Not only have I enjoyed my time photographing them, but I have also met so many wonderful couples. Here are a few of my favorites from over the years!
Andrew & George
Earlier this week I got together with Andrew and George to do their engagement portrait while they visited Vermont for New Year’s Eve. They’re getting married in western Massachusetts in October, with a reception in Keene, N.H. I’m happy to photograph them during their favorite seasons!
Barn Again
My traveling photo show All Around the Barnyard has found a new home — it is on display on the second floor of Oakes Hall at Vermont Law School in South Royalton, Vt. It blends nicely with the school’s new Center for Agriculture and Food Systems, established to teach agricultural law and to be a resource for food producers. The show is a collection of photographs from my visits to Vermont farms over the years — it was previously on display at the Vermont Agency of Agriculture in Montpelier and the Windsor County State’s Attorney offices in White River Junction.
