As time passes, moments in photography take on a new life. While visiting my family in South Dakota in 1991, I spent the day with my grandfather, taking pictures and cherishing my time with him. After he passed away eight years later, I gave everyone prints of him enjoying an ice cream with me in a small town diner. Mine is still on my desk at home, a memory of a wonderful day.
I am excited to work with Euclid Farnham on a follow-up to the well-received Tunbridge: Then & Now show we had in late 2014. The extensive collection of photographs Euclid has amassed for the Tunbridge Historical Society has given us plenty to work from! Stay tuned for the show’s opening date…
One of my daughter’s favorite parts of summer is being a part of The Chelsea Funnery’s Shakespeare camp. Over two weeks, the teenagers learn and do two performances of The Bard’s plays. This year it was his comedy Much Ado About Nothing. I’m always impressed with how much they accomplish in a short time! Here’s a few of my favorites — follow this link to see even more.
Santa and Mrs. Claus returned to the Tunbridge Public Library for their annual visit with the children, who were also read stories about Christmas. An annual tradition dating back to 1979, Euclid and Priscilla Farnham enthusiastically spoke with every child!
For the past two weeks, my daughter has been a part of the Get Thee to The Funnery Shakespeare Camp in Chelsea, Vt. It’s her third year, and each summer her passion for the camp grows. Guided by their passionate camp directors, over two dozen teens learn and produce a play in just two weeks! This year, there were two performances of Romeo and Juliet indoors and out. I recently placed an order to upgrade the digital SLR cameras I have used for many assignments, book projects, portraits and weddings. In the same week, I bought a little rangefinder camera at a flea market. One camera costs more than a nice vacation, the other half the price of a movie ticket. I’m excited to use all of them for future projects!

This Christmas Eve, I brought my camera to the Tunbridge Church’s annual service, which concludes with the sanctuary filled with candlelight and song. About 12 hours later, I photographed a father and mother’s reactions to their children’s excitement on Christmas morning. It’s rewarding to witness such special moments with my camera.

Last weekend, my daughter’s eighth-grade class held the Made by You holiday fair at Tunbridge Central School to raise money for their class trip to Washington D.C. Friends and family of the students chipped in to help attendees make gifts, take horse rides and eat delicious food. I lent a hand with portraits, which was a lot of fun. Here are a few of my favorites!
As Santa and Mrs. Claus, Euclid and Priscilla Farnham returned to the Tunbridge Public Library for their 35th annual visit to hear what the children would like for Christmas. Many braved the inclement weather for the visit!
Coming up on Sunday, Nov. 9, my show Tunbridge: Then and Now will be opening at the Tunbridge Public Library, running until Jan. 4 next year. Working with Tunbridge Historical Society President Euclid Farnham, we found 30 photos from the society’s archives that show how the town has changed or stayed the same over the past century. I then photographed the same places in the past few months. I enjoyed the time I spent with Euclid, hearing his stories of about the town and people he has known over the years. There’s a reception from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 9. I hope to see you there!
